20 000 Women | National Women's Day South Africa

Yesterday was Women’s Day in South Africa On the 9th of August 1956, 20 000 women of all backgrounds marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, South Africa. They were protesting apartheid pass laws restricting black South Africans' movements, delivering 100 000+ petition signatures to the Prime Minister's office. This protest strengthened the role of women in theanti-apartheid struggle and increased international awareness and pressure on the apartheid government. We now celebrate National Women's Day in South Africa every 9th of August.
